Cataguases Map Poster & Print
Cataguases lies in the Zona da Mata of south-eastern Minas Gerais, on the Pomba River. The river organises the map: the centre spreads along its banks, bridges link the two sides, and streets climb the surrounding hills in irregular, winding patterns that follow the contours rather than any grid.
The town has an outsized place in Brazilian culture. In the 1920s it was home to the literary magazine Verde, one of the voices of Brazilian modernism, and to the early films of Humberto Mauro, often called a founder of Brazilian cinema. Later, modernist architects including Oscar Niemeyer designed buildings here, leaving an unusual concentration of mid-century architecture.
Around the centre, neighbourhoods fill the valleys and hillsides, and the town's long textile tradition is part of its story. A Cataguases map poster shows how closely the town is tied to its river and hills. It also shows how a place of this size came to hold such a distinct cultural identity.

Modernist centre
The central streets hold buildings by leading Brazilian modernists, including a school designed by Oscar Niemeyer, a legacy that makes the historic core notable well beyond its size.
Hillside streets
On the hills, streets wind and branch to follow the slopes, creating an organic pattern that contrasts with the flatter blocks near the river.

Neden Cataguases
Anlam taşıyan bir harita
People hang Cataguases for its river and hills, but also for what the town represents: a small place that shaped Brazilian film, literature and architecture. It suits someone with roots there as much as anyone who cares about modernism.
The title, subtitle and coordinates line are yours to edit, so the poster can mark a family home, a graduation or a year spent in the town. Choose from five styles; Paper and Sand suit the warm tones of the Zona da Mata.
