Chatham Island Map Poster & Print
Chatham Island is known as Rēkohu to Moriori and Wharekauri to Māori. It lies roughly 800 kilometres east of New Zealand's South Island and is the largest island in the Chatham group. Water dominates its map. Te Whanga Lagoon spreads across much of the interior, leaving a ring of land with long beaches and a higher, more rugged south.
Few people live here. Waitangi, the main township, sits on a bay on the west coast, and a handful of roads link small communities and farms across the island. The Chathams keep their own time, 45 minutes ahead of mainland New Zealand. Because they lie so close to the date line, they are among the first inhabited places to see each new day.
A Chatham Island map poster shows how unusual the island's shape is: an outer rim of land wrapped around an inland sea, with long, open beaches on the east and hills and cliffs to the south. In black and white the lagoon becomes the centre of the composition, and the empty ocean around it shows how remote the island is.

Waitangi township
The island's main settlement curves around a bay on the west coast and forms the densest cluster of streets anywhere on the print, small as it is.
Southern high ground
The land rises toward the south into higher, rougher country. Its cliffs contrast with the low sands and the lagoon further north.

Neden Chatham Island
Anlam taşıyan bir harita
Chatham Island appeals to people with Moriori, Māori or farming family links to the islands, and to travellers who made the long flight out. It also starts conversations: it is a map of a place that keeps its own time zone and sees each new day before almost anywhere else.
Set the title to Rēkohu, Wharekauri or Chatham Island, add a subtitle or date, and choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Digital HD files cost $9 for six sizes at 300 DPI, and printed matte posters ship from print partners in 30+ countries.
