Sea and lake
The Arabian Sea shore and the edge of Vembanad Lake frame the area on two sides, giving the map a distinctive shape defined by water rather than by roads.

Cherthala Map Poster & Print
Cherthala lies in Alappuzha district in central Kerala, on the thin coastal plain that separates the Arabian Sea from the waters of Vembanad Lake. On the map, this position is everything. The coastline runs straight along one side, the lake shore breaks into inlets on the other, and the town sits in between on a band of low, green land.
Canals and backwater channels cut through the area, and many roads run parallel to them. National Highway 66, the main coastal route through Kerala, passes through the town and forms a clear north–south axis. Cherthala has long been associated with coir, the fibre made from coconut husk, and the palms that supply it cover much of the surrounding land.
A Cherthala map poster shows how closely life here is bound to water. The sea edge, the lake edge and the channels between them give the composition layered bands running the length of the frame, while the town's roads and lanes knit the strip together into a single, recognisable shape that is unmistakably of the Kerala coast.

NH 66 axis
The national highway runs north to south through Cherthala, forming a firm central line from which the town's lanes branch away on both sides.
Backwater channels
Canals and narrow waterways thread through the low ground, appearing as fine lines that link the lake shore with inland settlements and fields.
