Chust lies on the northern edge of the Fergana Valley in Namangan Region, where the flat, irrigated valley floor meets rising foothills. From above, the town's streets spread across the gently sloping ground. Main roads run towards the regional centre and the neighbouring districts. Irrigation channels and tree-lined lanes cut through gardens and orchards, so the green spaces and the built-up areas are closely interwoven.
The town is known across Uzbekistan for its craftsmen, especially for the Chust knife, a traditional blade still made by hand, and for embroidered skullcaps. Archaeologists also gave the town's name to the Chust culture, a Bronze Age farming culture of the Fergana Valley first identified at sites near here.
