Ciego de Ávila Map Poster & Print
Ciego de Ávila is in central Cuba, on a wide, flat plain between the north and south coasts. The city is laid out in a regular grid. Its streets meet at right angles and the blocks are fairly even in size. From above, the pattern is calm and orderly, with a central square and main streets forming the core.
The city is known as the city of portals, after the covered arcades along many of its streets. These porches shade the pavements and give the town a consistent street front. On a map they aren't visible, but the neat, even blocks show the same careful planning.
In the nineteenth century, the Spanish military built a fortified line across the island, the Trocha de Júcaro a Morón, which passed through the area. A Ciego de Ávila map poster shows the tidy grid of a Cuban provincial capital, with farmland on every side.

Central square
The main square and the streets around it form the heart of the grid. The poster shows how the rest of the city is arranged around this central point.
Open plains
Outside the city, the plains of central Cuba stretch in all directions. Roads and railway lines lead out toward both coasts.
