Estepona lies on the western Costa del Sol in the province of Málaga, and the map is organised by a simple contrast: the Mediterranean along the south, the Sierra Bermeja rising sharply behind the town to the north, and a narrow coastal strip between them where streets and houses gather.
At the centre, the old town is a tight arrangement of short lanes and small squares. It is known for whitewashed houses and for streets hung with flowerpots, and in recent years large murals have been painted on buildings across the town. On a map, this quarter appears as a dense cluster set just back from the promenade.
An Estepona map poster also shows how the town stretches along the coast. A long seafront path follows the beaches, the marina adds a sheltered harbour basin to the east, and newer developments extend in both directions along the shore road. Behind it all, the mountains keep the town from spreading far inland.
