Fall River Map Poster & Print
Fall River is built on a hillside that drops sharply to the Taunton River where it widens into Mount Hope Bay. The street grid climbs in steps from the waterfront, and the Braga Bridge carries Interstate 195 across the river toward Somerset. The city takes its name from the Quequechan River, whose falls once powered the first mills before most of its lower course was channelled underground.
In the nineteenth century Fall River became one of the largest cotton textile centres in the United States. The huge granite mills that remain are easy to spot on a map as long rectangles set along the old water routes. East of downtown, the North and South Watuppa Ponds form two long bodies of water that give the city a clear inland boundary.
A Fall River map poster brings together the river, the bay, the mill districts and the ponds in a single frame. Battleship Cove, where historic naval ships are moored beside the bridge, marks the waterfront. The city is also widely known as the setting of the 1892 Borden murder case, a story that still draws visitors.

Watuppa Ponds
Two long, narrow ponds lie east of the built-up area and shape the city's outline, separating the dense neighbourhoods from the wooded land toward the Westport side.
Mill blocks
The granite textile mills appear as large, solid footprints among the smaller residential blocks, concentrated along the river corridors that once supplied their water power.
