Fort Beaufort Map Poster & Print
Fort Beaufort lies in the Eastern Cape, on the Kat River near the foothills of the Amatola Mountains. The town began in 1837 as a military post during the frontier wars, and on the map its centre still reflects that origin: a small, regular grid set on land enclosed by a bend of the river.
One of its best-known structures is a Martello tower, a round fortification of a type usually built on coastlines, which makes this inland example unusual. The town is also close to Alice, home of the University of Fort Hare, and serves as a centre for farming areas known for citrus.
A Fort Beaufort map poster shows a compact grid shaped by a river and surrounding hills. The Kat River curves around the town, roads run out into the countryside, and outlying settlements add clusters of streets beyond the historic core, giving the print a clear centre and a natural frame.
