Haldensleben I Map Poster & Print
Haldensleben lies in Saxony-Anhalt, north-west of Magdeburg, on the small Ohre river. From above, the town has a clear historic core, an oval old town once ringed by walls, surrounded by later residential districts and parkland. To the south, the Mittellandkanal, one of Germany's major inland waterways, crosses the landscape in a long, straight line.
A Haldensleben I map poster brings together these different elements: the tight streets of the medieval centre, the winding Ohre and its meadows, the geometric canal and the roads that lead out toward neighbouring towns. The canal in particular gives the composition a strong horizontal axis that contrasts with the curves of the river.
The town has preserved parts of its medieval fortifications, including gate towers such as the Stendaler Tor and the Bülstringer Tor. Its market square is home to a Roland statue on horseback, a rare form of this traditional symbol of civic rights. Around the town, forest areas such as the Haldensleber Forst provide open space.
