Herford Map Poster & Print
Herford lies in eastern Westphalia, in North Rhine-Westphalia, at the confluence of the Werre and the Aa. On the map the two rivers wind in from different directions and join close to the historic centre, their loops giving the town its most recognisable shape. The old town sits compactly within a ring of green spaces and roads that follow the line of the medieval fortifications.
The town grew around a religious foundation established in the late eighth century, the imperial abbey of Herford, whose Minster church still stands at the heart of the centre. Herford later belonged to the Hanseatic League, and its old street pattern, irregular and closely packed, contrasts clearly with the looser residential districts and the rolling farmland of the Ravensberg area beyond.
Modern Herford is also known for MARTa Herford, a museum of contemporary art and design in a building by Frank Gehry, its folded roofs set just outside the old town. A Herford map poster combines the rivers, the ring and the medieval core into a balanced composition, calm and legible at every size.

Old town ring
Green spaces and roads trace the line of the former town walls, enclosing the medieval centre in a clear, rounded ring that reads well in monochrome.
Minster quarter
The Minster church, heir to the abbey founded in the eighth century, anchors a dense cluster of historic streets at the heart of the town.
