River border
The Río Bravo traces the city's northern edge in looping curves. On the print it becomes a pale, meandering band separating two countries and two street patterns.

Heroica Matamoros Map Poster & Print
Heroica Matamoros sits at the north-eastern tip of Mexico in Tamaulipas, on the south bank of the Río Bravo, known in the United States as the Rio Grande. Across the water lies Brownsville, Texas, and the two cities are joined by several international bridges. The river swings in tight meanders along the northern edge, giving the map an unmistakable wandering border line.
South of the river the city spreads across low, level delta land in a broad grid, centred on a historic core of square blocks around the main plaza. Old meander scars and drainage channels interrupt the pattern here and there, while newer industrial parks and housing extend the city outward across the coastal plain toward the Gulf of Mexico.
The word Heroica is an honorific the city earned for its defence during nineteenth-century conflicts. A Heroica Matamoros map poster gives equal weight to the layers of that history: the older grid around the centre, the bridges reaching north, and the river that has shaped trade and daily life here for generations.

International bridges
Several bridges cross the river to Brownsville. On the map they appear as short, firm links, small details that explain much about how the city lives and works.
Central grid
The historic centre is laid out in regular square blocks around the main plaza, the most orderly part of the map before the city loosens toward the south.
