Itaberaba Map Poster & Print
Itaberaba lies in the interior of Bahia, in the semi-arid country west of Salvador. On a map it appears as a compact town with a fairly regular grid at its centre, surrounded by newer neighbourhoods and roads that stretch into a landscape of low hills, pasture and caatinga scrub. The BR-242 highway runs past the town, linking the coast with the western interior.
The name comes from the Tupi language and is usually translated as shining stone. The town lies within the basin of the Paraguaçu River and serves as a commercial centre for a wide rural region devoted to cattle and agriculture. Travellers heading west toward the Chapada Diamantina often pass through on the way.
An Itaberaba map poster shows the character of a sertão town: a clear central grid, the long line of the highway, and streets that loosen and thin as they reach the dry surrounding land. In a monochrome style, the contrast between the dense core and the open country makes a simple, strong composition.

BR-242 highway
The federal highway passes the town as a long, clean line, connecting Itaberaba with Salvador to the east and the interior to the west.
Sertão surroundings
Beyond the last neighbourhoods, open land of pasture and scrub stretches out, with only roads and tracks crossing the wide space.
