From above, the town appears as a dense older core of narrow streets surrounded by newer, more regular residential areas, with roads running out across flat farmland toward neighbouring towns and villages.
Kottūru is known across the region for its principal temple and the large chariot festival held there each year, which brings pilgrims from far beyond the town.
