Leiden Map Poster & Print
Leiden's old centre is one of the most recognisable shapes in the Netherlands. A continuous moat, the Singelgracht, surrounds it in an angular outline that follows the line of former fortifications, and inside that ring the branches of the Oude Rijn and a web of smaller canals divide the city into islands, quays and narrow streets.
At the heart of it stands the Burcht, a medieval motte raised on a mound where two arms of the Rhine meet. The streets radiating from this point, together with the canals, give a Leiden map poster its distinctive density: a compact, watery city where almost every block has a quay or a bridge on at least one side.
Leiden is home to the oldest university in the Netherlands, founded in 1575, and its buildings are spread across the historic centre rather than a single campus. The city is also where Rembrandt was born, and the Hortus botanicus, one of the oldest botanical gardens in Europe, sits by one of the canals.

Oude Rijn branches
Two arms of the Old Rhine flow through the centre and meet near the Burcht, framing the heart of the city with water on almost every side.
University quarter
University buildings are woven into the old streets and canals rather than set apart, so the whole centre reads as a single, walkable academic town.

Neden Leiden
Anlam taşıyan bir harita
Leiden draws students, researchers and visitors from all over the world, and many leave with a strong attachment to its canals and streets. A map of the centre is a quiet reminder of years spent cycling over its bridges and reading by its water.
Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line, perhaps with a graduation year or a faculty name, and choose from Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Classic black & white shows the canal network with particular clarity.
