Lugoj lies on the plain of the Banat, and the River Timiș runs straight through the middle of it. On a map the river is the first thing you see: a clear band separating the eastern and western halves of the town, crossed by a handful of bridges. Each side has its own centre and its own grid of streets, and the two only fully meet at the water.
The division has deep roots. For a long time the two banks were effectively separate settlements, one with a mostly Romanian population and one with a German one, and they were formally united only in the eighteenth century. The iron bridge from the start of the twentieth century remains one of the best-known sights in town and a familiar symbol of Lugoj.
A Lugoj map poster turns that history into a simple composition: two street patterns facing each other across a river, stitched together by bridges. Outside the centre the blocks open into garden-lined residential streets and then into the flat farmland of the Banat. It is an easy map to read at a glance, and one that repays a closer look.
