Ring of hills
Ridges surround the town on several sides, so the street pattern gathers in the lower ground and loosens as it climbs, giving the map a clear centre and a scattered edge.

Machakos Map Poster & Print
From above, Machakos reads as a dense core of short streets surrounded by rising ground. The hills close in on several sides, and the roads leave the centre along the valley floors, then thin into tracks that climb toward scattered homesteads. On a map it has a clear shape: the town sits in the low ground, and the land around it is folded.
Machakos was one of the first colonial administrative stations in the Kenyan interior, set up in the late nineteenth century, before Nairobi existed as a town. Today it is the capital of Machakos County and a centre for the Akamba community, with market trade and commuter traffic linking it to the capital about an hour away.
A Machakos map poster shows the town at that scale, with the dense grid of the centre, the main roads heading toward Nairobi and the southeast, and open space between the ridges. In black and white, the contrast between the tight core and the looser pattern of the surrounding hills is easy to see.

Early administrative post
Machakos was among the earliest colonial stations in the interior, and the old centre still forms the heart of the street plan that later growth wrapped around.
Roads to the capital
Main roads leave the centre toward Nairobi and the wider county, drawing long lines across the sheet that link the town to the plains beyond the hills.

Neden Machakos
Anlam taşıyan bir harita
People hang Machakos because they grew up among its hills, studied there or still have family in the county. A map keeps the real layout of the place, which a photograph rarely manages, and it fits easily into a home in Nairobi or abroad.
You can set your own title and subtitle, change the coordinates line or add a date that matters to you. Choose from Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand, then download the HD files for $9 or order a printed poster.
