The through road
Mek’ī grew along the main road through the Rift Valley, and it is the strongest line on the map, running through the town with the rest of the streets arranged on either side.

Mek’ī Map Poster & Print
Mek’ī sits on the floor of the Ethiopian Rift Valley in Oromiya, south of Addis Ababa. From above it takes the shape of a crossroads settlement: a main road runs through the centre, and shorter streets branch off it into blocks of homes, yards and market space. The streets are mostly straight, and the town thins out quickly into the open valley.
The Meki River runs close to the town on its way into Lake Ziway, one of the Rift Valley lakes. On a map, the water pulls the eye east and south, away from the grid and towards the flat irrigated land along the lakeshore. The area is known for farming, and the fields around the town show up as a looser pattern of tracks and plots than the streets at its centre.
A Mek’ī map poster keeps all of this simple. The highway becomes one confident line, the side streets a fine mesh around it, and the river a thin curve heading for the lake. With no colour or labels to distract, you can see how a town grows along a road and spreads towards the water that makes the valley farmable.

Meki River
The river that shares the town's name winds across the valley floor towards Lake Ziway. On paper it is a soft, irregular line that breaks up the straighter geometry of the streets.
Towards Lake Ziway
Frame the map a little wider and the lake shore appears to the south-east. The large open shape of the water gives the dense centre of the town a clear sense of scale.
