The Guamá River
The river bends past the town in broad curves. It gives the map its main line and marks the old waterside edge from which the settlement developed.

Ourém Map Poster & Print
Ourém lies in northeastern Pará, in the Brazilian Amazon, on the bank of the Guamá River some distance inland from Belém. The town has a compact layout. A set of streets runs parallel to the river, others lead away from the water, and a small centre has grown outward along the roads to neighbouring municipalities.
It shares its name with the town of Ourém in Portugal, a reminder of the colonial practice of giving Portuguese place names to settlements in the Amazon. The region around it has changed over time, with areas of forest cleared for farming and cattle. The river is still the defining element, winding through the landscape in wide, slow bends.
An Ourém map poster is shaped by water. The Guamá curves across the frame as the strongest single form, the town gathers along its bank, and roads and tributaries trace the land beyond. In black and white, the meandering river becomes almost calligraphic. It suits anyone from the town or with family connections to this part of Pará.

Riverside streets
Streets near the water run roughly parallel to the bank, with cross streets leading inland. It is a simple pattern typical of river towns across the Amazon.
Roads into the interior
Beyond the centre, a few main roads head out through farmland and remaining forest. They connect Ourém to nearby towns and appear as long, clean lines.
