The Arroyo Seco
This long, natural ravine runs down the city's west side. It holds the Rose Bowl, open parkland and the arched Colorado Street Bridge, and gives the map a strong green line.

Pasadena Map Poster & Print
Pasadena lies at the northern edge of the Los Angeles basin, right against the San Gabriel Mountains. On a map, its regular streets climb gently northward until they break up into the curving roads of the foothills. To the west, the Arroyo Seco cuts a long, green channel through the city. It separates the grid from the neighbourhoods on the other side.
The Rose Bowl stadium sits in the wide part of the Arroyo, with a golf course and open parkland around it. Farther south, the Colorado Street Bridge crosses the ravine on its row of arches. Colorado Boulevard runs east from there through Old Pasadena. It is the route of the Tournament of Roses Parade every New Year's Day.
A Pasadena map poster also shows the campus of Caltech, a compact block of streets and courtyards in the southeast of the city. Together, the long boulevard, the ravine, the stadium bowl and the edge of the mountains make a map with a clear, recognisable structure. It reads well at every size.

Colorado Boulevard
The city's best-known street runs east through Old Pasadena and is the route of the annual Rose Parade. On the poster it cuts a clear horizontal line across the grid.
Foothill edge
In the north, the regular blocks give way to curving roads as the land rises into the San Gabriel Mountains. It is one of the clearest city edges in the region.
