Rocky headland
The point that gives the town its name rises beside the harbour, a distinct bump in the coastline that anchors the older streets and the port.

Puerto Peñasco Map Poster & Print
Puerto Peñasco lies on the northern shore of the Gulf of California in Sonora, where the Sonoran Desert meets the sea. From above, the town centre sits beside a rocky headland, with the harbour on one side and long beaches curving away to the east and west. Inland, the streets fade quickly into open desert.
The older part of town around the port has a compact grid of streets, while newer development stretches along the coast in lines of hotels, residential areas and resorts. Estuaries and tidal flats interrupt the shoreline in places, creating irregular water shapes beside the regular streets. The whole map has a strong divide between built-up coast and empty land.
Known in English as Rocky Point, the town began as a fishing port and remains known for shrimp fishing. It is also a popular beach destination for visitors from Arizona. A Puerto Peñasco map poster shows how narrowly the town follows its coastline, with sea on one side and desert on the other.

Long beaches
Sandy beaches stretch away from the centre in long, gentle curves, with resorts and roads following them in thin lines along the shore.
Desert edge
Inland, the streets end abruptly against open desert, so the map shows a clean boundary between settlement and wide, empty land.
