Rojales lies in the Vega Baja del Segura, the fertile lowland in the south of Alicante province. The Segura river curves through the town, and the older streets gather close to its banks. Around them, the map shows irrigated fields, and to the south and west, the looser street patterns of residential developments climbing the low hills.
The town's stone bridge over the Segura dates from the eighteenth century, and a historic weir nearby once controlled water for the irrigation network. Rojales is also known for its cave houses dug into the hillside, some restored as artisans' workshops. Ciudad Quesada, a large residential area within the municipality, is home to many international residents.
