Few places have a stronger outline from above than the Temple Mount. Known in Arabic as Haram al-Sharif, it is a broad, flat trapezoid set into the south-eastern corner of the Old City. Massive retaining walls frame all four sides. Inside, open paved space and trees surround two landmark buildings. Beyond the walls, the dense alleys of the Old City come right up to its edges.
The Dome of the Rock stands on a raised inner platform near the centre, and its octagonal plan is visible even at street-map scale. Al-Aqsa Mosque closes the southern end. Along the western side lies the Western Wall plaza, an open rectangle cut into the neighbouring quarter. The eastern wall looks out over the Kidron Valley towards the Mount of Olives.
The site is sacred in Judaism, Islam and Christianity, and every square metre of it carries meaning. A Temple Mount map poster makes no claim about that meaning. It simply shows the geometry: a platform, the walls that hold it, and the city gathered around it. That restraint is part of why the image works on a wall.

An open plaza sits against the western retaining wall. It appears as a pale rectangle cut into the surrounding quarter, one of the few large open spaces within the Old City walls.
Golden Gate
The sealed double gate in the eastern wall faces the Kidron Valley. On the map it marks where the platform meets the steep drop outside the city.
