Tenosique Map Poster & Print
Tenosique de Pino Suárez sits on the Usumacinta River in the far east of Tabasco, close to the border with Guatemala. On the map the river is the defining feature. It is broad and slow-moving, and it curves past the town, while the streets are laid out in a fairly regular grid that runs back from the bank. Beyond the town, the land opens into lowland pasture, wetland and forest.
The Usumacinta is one of the largest rivers in Mesoamerica. Nearby lie the Maya ruins of Pomoná, and the region has long been a crossing point between Mexico and Central America. Tenosique is also known for the Danza del Pochó, a carnival tradition unique to the town, with masked dancers performing each year.
A Tenosique map poster shows the town as a grid beside a great river, a simple and striking composition. It suits people from Tabasco, travellers who have passed through on their way to Guatemala or the Maya sites, and anyone who feels drawn to towns defined by water.

Toward Guatemala
Roads lead out of town toward the border and the surrounding lowlands, tracing old routes between Tabasco and Central America.
