Thetford Map Poster & Print
Thetford lies on the Norfolk and Suffolk border, where the Little Ouse and the Thet meet. Its historic core is a knot of irregular streets around the river crossings, and beyond it spread the planned estates built from the late 1950s, when the town expanded to take in overspill population from London. The A11 bypass curves around the whole, marking the transition to heath and forest.
The town has deep medieval roots. Castle Hill, a huge Norman earthwork, is among the largest mottes in England, and the ruins of a Cluniac priory sit near the river. Thetford is also the birthplace of Thomas Paine, commemorated by a gilded statue, and the surrounding area appeared in the filming of Dad's Army, which now has its own small museum in town.
A Thetford map poster reads in layers: the tangled medieval centre, the looping post-war crescents, the ring of main roads and finally the forest, which covers vast areas around the town. The planted pine woodland of Thetford Forest, the largest lowland pine forest in England, gives the drawing broad empty margins that make the street pattern stand out.

Two rivers
The Little Ouse and the Thet join near the centre, and the historic streets gather around their crossings, giving the core an irregular, river-shaped layout.
Forest edge
Thetford Forest stretches away beyond the bypass, a large expanse of planted pine that leaves most of the surrounding map free of streets and buildings.

Neden Thetford
Anlam taşıyan bir harita
Thetford means different things to different people: a childhood in the estates, a walk through the forest, the town of Thomas Paine. A map holds all of it without choosing one story over another.
Add a title, a subtitle with a year or a family name, and adjust the coordinates line. Blueprint suits the planned estates, Noir the forest edge. Downloads are $9 for six sizes, including A3 and A2, or order a framed matte print.
