Katsura River valley
The river winds through the town in a deep cut, and most of the streets settle onto the terraces above it. It gives the poster a strong, curving spine.

Uenohara Map Poster & Print
Uenohara sits in the eastern corner of Yamanashi, where the Katsura River cuts a deep valley through forested mountains. From above, the town reads as a long ribbon. Houses, roads and the railway follow the river terraces, and steep wooded slopes close in on both sides. Wherever the ground levels out, the street pattern thickens, then thins again where the valley narrows.
The corridor has carried travellers for centuries. The old Kōshū Kaidō road ran through the valley between Edo and Kōfu, and today the JR Chūō Line and the Chūō Expressway take much the same route. On paper you can see all three routes running side by side. Tunnels and bridges pick up the work where the terrain gets too tight.
A Uenohara map poster turns this terrain into a study of lines under pressure. Streets bend with the contours, side valleys branch off into the hills, and the blank green mass of the mountains becomes open white space. The result is quieter than a city grid and more particular, a portrait of a town shaped almost entirely by its river.

Parallel transport lines
The railway and the expressway run close to the historic road, crossing the valley on bridges and diving into tunnels. You can pick them out as separate, clean strokes.
Mountain edges
Forested slopes rise straight from the town's edge. On the map they leave broad empty areas that make the settled valley floor stand out.

Neden Uenohara
Anlam taşıyan bir harita
For anyone who has commuted along the Chūō Line or grown up between these hills, the map says something familiar: one river, a few roads and a town that stretches to fit. It suits a hallway or a study, where the long, narrow composition has room.
Add a personal title, a date or the coordinates of a family home, then choose from five styles. Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand each bring out the valley differently. Get it as a $9 HD download or as a printed poster with an optional wooden frame.
