Forest inside the town
Belts of pine woodland were kept between the residential districts, so the map shows the neighbourhoods as separate clusters set within green space.

Visaginas Map Poster & Print
Visaginas lies in the far north-east of Lithuania, close to the borders with Latvia and Belarus. It was founded in 1975 as a new town for the workers of the Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant. It was laid out from scratch in a pine forest on the shore of Lake Visaginas, with the plant itself built some distance away.
The plan shows its origins clearly. Residential districts of apartment blocks are arranged along curving streets and separated by strips of forest that were deliberately kept inside the town. Wide avenues connect them, and the lake forms a smooth boundary on one side. The plant closed in 2009, but the town and its layout remain.
A Visaginas map poster highlights the careful structure of a planned town: sweeping roads, clusters of buildings and generous green space between them. The forest and lake frame the composition and give it a calm, modernist character. It speaks to former plant workers and their families, and to people interested in late Soviet urban planning.

Lake Visaginas
The lake lies along the edge of the town, its shoreline forming a soft, curving boundary that balances the planned geometry of the streets.
Curved districts
Apartment blocks follow gently curving streets within each district, a deliberate design that gives the poster flowing lines instead of a rigid grid.

Neden Visaginas
Anlam taşıyan bir harita
Visaginas was built for a single purpose, and many families came from across the former Soviet Union to live and work here. A map of the town is a meaningful keepsake for them, and for anyone who admires ambitious planned cities.
Set your own title and subtitle, add the year you arrived or the year the plant closed, and pick one of five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Buy the HD files for $9 or order a printed poster, framed if you like.
