Vovcha River
The river that named the town bends along its edge. Its soft line of water and floodplain contrasts with the straighter streets set back from the valley.

Vovchansk Map Poster & Print
Vovchansk takes its name from the Vovcha, a small river that winds past the town before joining the Siverskyi Donets. On a map the river's loops and the low ground along its banks form one edge of the settlement. Away from the valley, streets of houses and gardens spread out in a loose, mostly rectilinear pattern typical of towns in the Slobozhanshchyna region.
The town lies very close to the border with Russia, and since 2022 it has been on the front line of the war. It was occupied early in the full-scale invasion and returned to Ukrainian control later that year. It came under attack again during the 2024 offensive, and much of it was badly damaged. Many residents have been forced to leave.
For that reason a Vovchansk map poster often carries a different weight. It records the plan of the town as the map draws it: the river, the central streets, the roads toward Kharkiv and the villages nearby. In plain black and white, it is a way of holding on to a place and its geography, whatever has happened to the buildings.

Residential grid
Beyond the centre, long parallel streets of private houses and garden plots form a regular, open pattern, a layout common to small towns across eastern Ukraine.
Road to Kharkiv
The main road running southwest toward the regional capital is one of the strongest lines on the sheet. It links Vovchansk to Kharkiv and to the wider oblast.
