The open pit
The Cerro de Pasco mine forms a vast, roughly oval void beside the urban area. Its scale dominates the map and shows how deeply mining has shaped the city.

Yanacancha Map Poster & Print
Yanacancha is one of the districts that make up the city of Cerro de Pasco in the Peruvian Andes. It lies at more than 4,000 metres above sea level, among the highest urban areas in the world. On the map, the streets form a dense, irregular network across a high, bare plateau. Small lakes and wetlands of the puna lie beyond the edge of town.
The most striking feature of the area is the huge open-pit mine at the heart of Cerro de Pasco. Mining for silver, lead and zinc has shaped the city for centuries, and the pit has expanded into land once occupied by neighbourhoods. On a map, it appears as a large, blank void surrounded by streets.
A Yanacancha map poster captures a landscape unlike any other: an urban street pattern on a high plateau, bounded by a vast industrial crater. In black and white, the contrast between the dense town and the empty pit is especially strong.

High-plateau streets
Yanacancha's streets spread across uneven terrain on the altiplano. They form a dense, irregular network of short blocks and bending roads.
Puna lakes
Small lakes and wetlands lie in the high grasslands around the city. They add soft, rounded shapes to the edges of the poster.
