Alfafar lies just south of the city of Valencia, part of the ring of towns that has grown up along the roads heading toward L'Albufera. From above, it is a dense block of streets with no clear gap between it and its neighbours, Benetússer, Sedaví and Massanassa. The V-31 motorway and the rail lines to the south run in parallel lines along the side of the town.
The municipality is split in two. The older town sits among the other southern suburbs, while the Barrio Orba district lies to the east, next to large retail parks. Further south the municipal area reaches into the flat, gridded rice fields of L'Albufera natural park, so the map shifts from tightly packed blocks to a pattern of paddies and irrigation channels.

The V-31 and the parallel rail lines form the strongest straight lines on the map. They separate the older centre from the retail areas and the Orba district to the east.
