Avanigadda is in the Krishna district of Andhra Pradesh, in the part of the Krishna delta known as Diviseema, the land between the river's branches near the Bay of Bengal. The landscape is flat and intensively farmed, and the map shows water everywhere: river channels, irrigation canals and the fine lines of drains running between the fields.
The town itself is a compact network of streets gathered around its main roads, with the market area and temples at the centre and residential lanes spreading outward.
