Bad Laasphe lies in the Wittgenstein area of southern Westphalia, where the Lahn is still a small river winding through forested hills near the Rothaar mountains. The town is a compact old centre of half-timbered houses on the valley floor. Roads run out along side valleys, and a lot of woodland shows up on every side of the map.
Above the town stands Schloss Wittgenstein, long the seat of the princes of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Hohenstein. It gives the map a clear high point. The Lahn and the railway follow the valley together, and the older streets gather close to the river.
