Bayugan is a city in Agusan del Sur, in the Caraga region of north-eastern Mindanao. It stretches along the main highway that runs through the Agusan valley between Butuan and Davao, which gives its map a clear linear shape: a town centre gathered around the road, with barangay roads branching into flat farmland and toward the low hills on either side.
Bayugan became a city in the late 2000s, and it remains largely agricultural, with rice and other crops covering much of its land. Rivers and creeks from the surrounding uplands cross the plain.
