Brockley lies in the London Borough of Lewisham, in south-east London, on rising ground between New Cross and Ladywell. Its map is dominated by long residential roads of Victorian and Edwardian houses, many of them in a conservation area, laid out along the slopes in fairly regular lines. A railway line runs north to south through the neighbourhood in a cutting, with Brockley station roughly at its centre, and the tracks divide the area into eastern and western halves joined by a few bridges.
