Casa Grande sits in Pinal County, Arizona, on the broad desert plain roughly midway between Phoenix and Tucson. Interstates 10 and 8 meet just outside the city, and from above that junction stands out against a landscape organised into large, square sections. The city grew up around the Southern Pacific railroad in the late nineteenth century, and the tracks still cut diagonally through its older core.
