Chenôve sits directly south of Dijon, and on a map the two run together. Suburban blocks and housing estates fill the flat ground near the valley. To the west the land rises sharply toward a wooded limestone plateau, and the street pattern thins out and breaks up as the slope gets steeper. The hillside acts as a clear western edge.
Between the built-up lower town and the plateau lies a band of vineyards. This is the northern end of the Côte, the wine slope that runs south toward Beaune.
