Duobao is a town in central Hubei, on the Jianghan Plain, the broad, low-lying farmland formed by the Yangtze and Han rivers. The land is almost perfectly flat. From above, water shapes nearly everything: channels, ditches, fish ponds and embankments divide the countryside into a fine pattern of plots, and the town sits as a compact cluster within it.
The streets of the town are fairly regular, with a main road through the centre and blocks packed on either side. Beyond the edge, the pattern changes to rectangles of fields and ponds, lined with straight drainage channels.
