Fazhanhe is a township in the far south of Yunnan, in the subtropical uplands of Xishuangbanna near China's borders with Myanmar and Laos. This is mountain country cut by rivers. Southern Yunnan is one of the most ethnically diverse parts of China, and the region's economy has long relied on tea, rubber and other upland crops. The land around Fazhanhe reflects this.
