Frauenfeld is the capital of the canton of Thurgau in north-eastern Switzerland, set on the small Murg river just before it reaches the Thur. From above, the compact old town sits on a low rise above the Murg, with Schloss Frauenfeld, its medieval castle, marking the corner. The rail line and the motorway to Zurich and Lake Constance pass the town as long, straight bands.
