Gomoh lies in Jharkhand's Dhanbad district, in the coal-mining belt of eastern India, and it owes its existence to the railway. The station is an important junction on the main line between the Kolkata region and northern India. On the map, the tracks and yards are the most striking feature. The station has a notable place in history. In January 1941, Subhas Chandra Bose boarded a train here during his escape from British surveillance in Calcutta, and the station now carries his name.
