Hanfeng is the central subdistrict of Kaizhou, a district in the northeast of Chongqing Municipality. Its present layout is largely a product of the Three Gorges Dam. As the reservoir rose, the old town was submerged and a new urban centre was built on higher ground. A dam on the local river now holds back Hanfeng Lake, the water at the heart of the town.
On a map the lake gives Hanfeng a soft, irregular centre, with newer streets laid out around its shores. The blocks are generally regular and planned, typical of towns rebuilt in recent decades, while the surrounding hills bend the outer roads into curves.
