Kasāra sits where the lowlands of Thane district meet the Western Ghats. On a map the town is compact: a short spread of lanes gathered around the railway line and the main road, with forested slopes rising steeply to the east. Many travellers know the name as the end of one branch of the Mumbai suburban railway on the Central line. It is the last stop before the ghat section that takes trains up toward Igatpuri.
