Kennesaw lies northwest of Atlanta in Cobb County, Georgia. The map is organised around a historic railroad running through the old downtown, with a small grid of streets at its heart and newer suburban neighbourhoods spreading out along winding roads and cul-de-sacs.
To the south rises Kennesaw Mountain, now protected as a national battlefield park commemorating the 1864 battle of the Atlanta Campaign. The town, once called Big Shanty, is also where the Great Locomotive Chase began in 1862, and the locomotive General is displayed in a local museum. Kennesaw State University adds a large campus to the map.
