Kurashiki in Okayama Prefecture covers a wide area, from the inland plain down to the Seto Inland Sea. From above, it has several distinct parts. A narrow canal lined with willows runs through it, flanked by white-walled storehouses from the Edo period when this was a rice-trading town.
