La Crau lies in the Var, inland between Toulon and Hyères, in the broad valley of the Gapeau river. The centre is compact, with narrow streets around a small core, and residential areas spread out along the roads. Beyond them, the map breaks into the patchwork of vineyards and orchards that covers the valley floor.
Wooded hills rise around the valley and frame the town on several sides. The Gapeau winds its way south towards the sea near Hyères.
