Legaspi, officially spelled Legazpi, is the capital of Albay province and the main city of the Bicol Region in the Philippines. On a map it lies along the shore of Albay Gulf. Its streets form a compact centre near the port, then spread inland across a coastal plain that rises gently towards the volcano.
Mayon Volcano, famous for its almost symmetrical cone, dominates the horizon beyond the city, and the street network thins out as the ground climbs towards its slopes.
