Lembeni lies in the Kilimanjaro region of northern Tanzania, in the Mwanga district, on the lowland plain to the west of the North Pare Mountains. From above, the settlement stretches along the main road that runs between Moshi and the coast, with houses and plots lining the route rather than forming a single compact centre.
The railway line from Moshi towards Tanga follows the same corridor, so the map is dominated by two long, near-parallel lines with the settlement gathered between and beside them. To the east the ground rises towards the mountains, and to the west it opens into drier plains with scattered farms and tracks.
