Escaldes-Engordany sits in the heart of Andorra, at the point where the two branches of the Valira river join. The town has grown into one continuous urban strip with Andorra la Vella, and on the map it is hard to tell where one ends and the other begins. The name refers to warm springs, and thermal water has long been part of the town's identity.
