Lima Duarte lies in the Zona da Mata of Minas Gerais, in the hilly country of the Serra da Mantiqueira, south of Juiz de Fora. The town sits in a valley, and its streets follow the shape of the land: a central area on the lower ground, with roads curving up the slopes in every direction. The town is best known as the gateway to the Parque Estadual do Ibitipoca, a mountain park known for its quartzite ridges, caves and waterfalls.
