Valley-bound streets
The urban area stretches along the valley floor instead of spreading in every direction. The long, irregular footprint of the street network makes it clear the town was built within the limits of the hills.

Loushanguan is the seat of Tongzi County in the north of Guizhou, a province of folded limestone hills and narrow valleys. On a map, the town follows the shape of the land. Streets spread along the valley floor, bend where the slopes close in, and stop at hillsides too steep to build on. The road network looks like threads pulled between ridges.
The name recalls the Loushan Pass, a mountain crossing on the old road south toward Zunyi. It is remembered in China for a Red Army battle during the Long March and for a well-known poem by Mao Zedong. The wider landscape still has the same character, with ranks of ridges and roads that climb in switchbacks.
A Loushanguan map poster turns that terrain into an image of dense lines where the valley is inhabited and open space where the hills rise. Modern blocks and expressway links now sit alongside the older streets. In black and white you can still see how much the mountains decide the town's shape.
The urban area stretches along the valley floor instead of spreading in every direction. The long, irregular footprint of the street network makes it clear the town was built within the limits of the hills.
The steep limestone hills around the town show up as blank areas on the map. These open shapes set off the tightly built centre and give the print a strong frame.
Roads into Loushanguan curve and double back as they cross the terrain. Seen from above they look like calligraphy, a typical sight in upland Guizhou.

Kaia a Loushanguan
This is a good choice for someone from Tongzi County, or for anyone interested in the mountain roads of southwest China. The strong contrast between valley and ridge suits a minimal print that reads clearly from across a room.
The title, subtitle and coordinates line can carry a name, a date or a line of your own. You then choose one of five styles, from Classic black & white and Noir to Paper, Blueprint and Sand, as a digital file or a printed poster with an optional frame.
