Mayenne Map Poster & Print
Mayenne sits in the north of the Pays de la Loire, in the department that shares its name, on both banks of the river Mayenne. On a map the river runs north to south through the heart of the town, crossed by bridges that link an old centre on the slopes above the water with neighbourhoods spreading out on the opposite side.
The town's best-known landmark is its castle, which overlooks the river and is considered one of the best-preserved Carolingian-era fortresses in France, with parts dating to around the tenth century. It now houses a museum. Mayenne is not the department's prefecture, a role held by Laval, but it remains the main centre for the north of the department.
A Mayenne map poster shows a classic French river town in clear lines. The river draws a strong, gently curving spine, old streets knot together around the castle, and newer roads and outskirts spread into the surrounding bocage countryside. It is a composition with a natural centre, balanced and easy to read at any size.

Castle quarter
The old centre gathers around the castle on the slope above the river. Its tight streets and irregular blocks create the most detailed part of the map.
Town bridges
Bridges cross the river in the centre, linking the two banks. They appear as short, firm strokes that stitch the two halves of the composition together.
